Les Demoiselles d’Peekskill

Les Demoiselles d’Peekskill (2018)

Our first collegiate art history course was called “Masterpieces: Art as a Cultural Paradigm” and the opening 4 weeks focused solely on Picasso’s “Les Demoiselles d’Avignon” as an exemplary masterpiece. Upon viewing the same boring slides for the hundredth time, we vowed to one day make the perfect parody of this so-called masterpiece. The opportunity presented itself in 2018 with a commission to paint a nude portrait of Mrs. Garrett and the girls from TV’s “The Facts of Life”. Finding the request offensive, we painted “Les Demoiselles d’Peekskill” instead. Produced using acrylics on 22″ x 26″ new commercial canvas and finished with a clear polymer glaze.
